How do we capture the movement/momentum?
What things are happening in the world that have an effect on fashion?

Focused Plan (Short Term)

Each person in the group will "media scan" one assigned direction's four elements of year 2000 .


Research Direction* :

  • fashion clothes,accessories (Ashley)

  • electronics/mechanics (Amanda)

  • housewares (Alison)

  • international/cultural events (Siro)

  • entertainment-music, movies, celebrities, television (Anna)

Research Elements:

  1. Recycling Fashion/Retro/Vintage:
    past trends of colors, silhouettes, textiles, outlier…etc

  2. Cultural Indicators & Economic condition:
    2010 Winter Olympics Games, eco-friendly, oil shortage, political issue…etc

  3. Color and Color Cycle:
    color trends, prominent colors on everything-cars, housewares (dishes, textiles, furniture, carpeting) jewelry, advertisements…etc

  4. Textiles:
    eco-friendly, recyclable, new technologies, textures, upholstery…etc


General Plan (Long Term)
1. Independent Research (outline of information, data collecting, etc.)

-Areas to explore, topics to consider:

  • recycling fashion /retro/vintage
  • cultural indicators (eco-friendly)
  • color and color cycle
  • textile (seasonal trend)
  • design concepts and style directions
  • sales forecasting, product life cycle, business cycle
  • competitive analysis (brand/retail format)

The Watermelon Forecasters of Columbus (TWFC) are excited and ready for the challenge ahead of them in forecasting a line of fall 2010 products for Butler Bag. Their group is made up of four Junior Design students and one Senior Merchandising student. One of the team members is from China, giving the team some very unique, international perspective. The team members of TWFC enjoy working together and look forward to the semester ahead of them.




Amanda Hunt is currently a Junior undergraduate student at Washington State University studying Apparel Design with a minor in Theatre. She looks forward to pursuing a career in theatre costume after graduation. Amanda is anticipating learning many new things this fall as she works with her team on the exciting and rigorous challenge of forecasting a line of fall 2010 products for Butler Bag.Photobucket











Ashley Cameron is currently a junior undergraduate student at Washington State University studying Apparel Design with a double minor, one in Fine Arts and another minor in Business Administration. She has not yet worked in the fashion industry but she is eager to jump in and work hard. She is also looking forward to learning all the different aspects of designing and fashion forecasting also learning all about the Butler Bag Company. Photobucket











Anna Francik is a Junior Apparel Design Major at Washington State University with an option in Merchandizing. Anna loves to be creative and explore new possibilities. She is very enthusiastic about her major and is looking forward to getting a real business experienceto help her in her future in design.Photobucket












Alison Bottemiller is a Junior undergraduate student at Washington State University. She is an Apparel Design major with a minor in Theatre arts. She loves to design and construct costumes for live theatre. She has had the opportunity to work closely with the costume designers at the University theatre as well as participating in an international theatre production. She is looking forward to working with her team for the Butler Bag company and is excited to see the results.Photobucket













Lin He (Siro) is a senior studying apparel merchandising. She was born in Guangzhou, China and also grew up there. She then immigrated to the U.S three years ago. Her passion includes fashion, drawing, painting, movies, music, and anything artistic. She wants to travel around the world and make many positive contributions to society. Photobucket
