In the United States presidential election, 2000 the running was between George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore. It was said that Bush would win the popular vote by a small margin come election day, but that Gore could win the Electoral College. However this was not the case. This was the 16th time ever in history that a candidate won the Electoral College vote without winning the majority of the nation's popular vote. There was a declare for a revote in Palm Beach County, Florida where officials switched tests mid-count to decide the validity of the ballots resulting in the new President George W. Bush.
