Recycling Trends and Styles in 2000

Recycling Fashion:

Trends and Styles

Throughout the new millennium several eras of fashion were "reused and recycled". However designers still were able to put their own ‘spin’ on their lines while creating “a sense of confidence and optimism in the best of the collections that is infectious, resulting in a season that sparkles with the kind of color, embellishment, and upscale luxury we haven't seen for years.”(Mark Holgate)

A few major trends/styles that were reused were the 80’s Logo as well as dots (as seen in the April issue of Vogue magazine) even though the 80’s were making a ‘comeback’ new colors were introduced such as combinations like toast and purple or nude and yellow. The logos and the dots were not the only ‘comeback’ from the 80’s Madonna’s ‘Material Girl’ era reappeared as well as Film Noir the (elegance of black).

Another style that was recycled was the 70’s style trouser suit for women with tight fitted tailored jackets and wide leg slim hip trousers. A large influence of the trouser suit was from the movie Saturday Night Fever. These tailored trouser suits because so popular because of the sophisticated sexiness they portrayed.

Elegance is another major style that has returned to the runways in 2000. The elegance has embraced the “ladies-who-lunch aesthetic” feeling. Another small yet noticeable return was the “Stable-ized Market” the riding pants were once popular from stars like Bette Davis and were making their was back once favored by Hollywood starlets like Bette Davis are making their way back into 2000. It was still rare to see “unless you're a serious equestrian, an eccentric acting coach, or an infantryman in a World War I-reenactment troupe, it's unlikely that there's a pair of jodhpurs hanging in your closet.” (Joel Ferree)

The links below will take you to more information on the recycled fashions used in the year 2000 that I talked about above.
